Students will learn how the maritime industry began. The Port of Newcastle was first export in Australia, with a shipment of 60 tonnes of coal to India in 1797????????. From that time ships were used as the main form of transport for the new colony - without the coal the early Australian colony may not have survived.
Shipwrecks also played a major part in shaping Newcastle’s history. Learn how brave men from the lifeboat Victoria saved many lives. Learn how the weather affects the shipping and transport industry.
Communication is taught through Morse code and semaphore interactive exhibits.
