Volunteers are the lifeblood of our museum. We simply could not function without their commitment and enthusiasm to provide a wide range of services to our visitors.

They are from many different backgrounds and they range from young to old, students through to retirees. They bring a wide range of skills and personalities that are valuable to the success of the Museum.

The reasons they volunteer are many: some are former shipping industry workers who wish to pass on their knowledge and experience, some are retired teachers who help with our educational programs, and there are others who just want to contribute to the local community in any way they can.

You don’t even need to know about ships - we provide full training in whatever role you undertake with us.
